Good News: Sunderland star named 2024 Community Champion

Sunderland footballer Pierre Ekwah has been honored as the Community Champion for the 2023-24 season by the Professional Footballers Association (PFA), in recognition of his commitment to community service with the Foundation of Light.

Throughout the season, Ekwah, aged 22, has been a shining example of this dedication, actively participating in various Foundation of Light activities. His involvement began with a visit to the Beacon of Light during EFL Week of Action, where he not only explored the facilities but also engaged with participants, even staying behind after his teammates had left to interact further and take photos.

In addition to his initial visit, Ekwah has taken part in cooking sessions, supported World Book Day events, and endorsed fundraising efforts like the Heart on your Sleeve campaign.

Reflecting on his recognition, Ekwah expressed his gratitude for the award, highlighting his genuine enjoyment of community involvement. For him, giving back to the community is not a burden but rather a joyous endeavor, something he approaches with enthusiasm and a smile.
