Mike Dodds received positive news regarding injuries as a key defender has been included in the Sunderland under-21 team lineup after recovering from an injury setback. Sunderland’s youth squad is set to take on Leicester City in the Premier League 2 tonight, generating significant interest from the first team.
The match between Sunderland’s under-21s and their counterparts from Leicester will kick off at 7 pm at Eppleton CW. Sunderland currently occupies the 13th position in the 26-team Premier League 2, while Leicester sits in 22nd place. There is an eight-point gap between the two teams ahead of this encounter. Aji Alese, who recently extended his contract with the Academy of Light, has been listed in the starting XI. Despite facing injury challenges and featuring in only three first-team games this season, Alese is expected to gain valuable playing time against Leicester as he prepares for a potential return after the international break. Alese, originally signed from West Ham in 2022, prolonged his stay at the Stadium of Light until 2027.
Additionally, Sunderland’s under-21 squad sees the return of Corry Evans and Bradley Dack as they continue their recovery journeys from injuries. In their previous fixture, a 3-2 loss to Newcastle United, Sunderland fielded Mason Burstow, Dack, Evans, Timothee Pembele, and Pierre Ekwah. Evans, the club captain, played for 45 minutes in that match and is expected to have a similar playing time against Leicester.
Sunderland’s starting lineup against Leicester includes Cameron, Bainbridge, Bell, Fieldson, Alese, Evans, Middlemas, Jones (c), Kelly, Watson, and Dack, with Chibueze, Lavery, Chiabi, Burke, and Ryder available as substitutes.
