Breaking News: Falcons Confirm A Deal of A Star Player to Replace Matt Hennessy

The Philadelphia Eagles have secured a new addition to their roster in the form of former Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Matt Hennessy. According to Zach Berman of PHLY, Hennessy, aged 26, is set to join the Eagles on a new contract. Hennessy had been sidelined with a leg injury during training camp and did not see any action during the 2023 season with the Falcons.

Originally drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Hennessy had started all 17 games in 2021 but saw limited action, appearing in only 11 games, during the 2022 season. With the Falcons facing challenges at the left guard position, they opted to trade up and select Matthew Bergeron with the No. 38 pick in the last NFL Draft. Bergeron performed admirably, securing the left guard role moving forward and lessening the need to retain Hennessy.

The Eagles find themselves in need of reinforcement on the offensive line following Jason Kelce’s retirement last week. While Hennessy may not be an immediate plug-and-play solution, there is potential for him to fill Kelce’s shoes. With experience at both guard and center positions, Hennessy could vie for the starting center position during the offseason.

Interestingly, this move sees Hennessy returning to Philadelphia, where he previously played college football. This homecoming to Philly may offer a fresh start and renewed energy for Hennessy. However, it’s worth noting that the details of Hennessy’s contract cannot be finalized until the new league year commences tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET.
