Newcastle United provides an update on injuries at their training ground following the announcement that a 28-year-old player will be sidelined for four months.
Matt Targett, the Newcastle United defender, is on track to make his comeback from injury as they prepare to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening. Targett, who has been out for four months due to a hamstring injury, returned to full training this week and is now in contention for selection. With Kieran Trippier and Lewis Hall unavailable, Targett is likely to be included on the bench for the Stamford Bridge clash. Eddie Howe, the head coach, stated, “Matt is making good progress in his recovery. While he could potentially play if urgently required, I believe he still needs some more training sessions.”
Targett’s return marks another positive development in Newcastle’s injury situation, following recent comebacks of Joe Willock, Alexander Isak, and Elliot Anderson. Despite Trippier’s setback in the last match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with a calf problem forcing him off the field, Tino Livramento, who scored after coming off the bench in the 3-0 win, is expected to take his place at right-back.
Trippier is anticipated to miss Newcastle’s upcoming matches against Chelsea and Manchester City, as well as being ruled out of the England squad for the upcoming international break. However, there is optimism that he could return when Newcastle hosts West Ham United at St James’ Park on March 30.
