Keys to the Game: Super Star Explain How the Browns can beat the Texans in Wild Card playoff game

Keys to Victory: How the Browns Can Triumph Over the Texans in the Wild Card Playoff Game

The Cleveland Browns are set to face the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs after securing the fifth seed with an 11-6 regular-season finish. Having previously defeated the Texans 36-22 in Week 16, the Browns are gearing up for a rematch on January 13. Here are three crucial factors that could determine the outcome of Saturday’s game.

  1. Contain QB C.J. Stroud in the Passing Game: This time, the Browns will encounter rookie QB C.J. Stroud leading the Texans’ offense, a change from their previous matchup where he was in concussion protocol. Stroud has had an impressive season, completing 319 of 499 passes for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns, with just five interceptions. The Browns boast a formidable defense, ranking second in passing yards allowed during the regular season and leading the league with only 5.9 yards allowed per attempt. Their ability to play tight coverage, maintain a relentless pass rush, and limit yards after the catch will be critical in the high-stakes playoff atmosphere.

Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz emphasized the importance of staying after Stroud in the pass rush and preventing significant gains after receptions.

  1. Defend Against WR Nico Collins: Wide receiver Nico Collins stands out as Stroud’s top target, having been targeted 109 times during the regular season. Collins recorded 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns, showcasing an average of 16.2 yards per reception. The Browns’ secondary, which successfully contained Collins in their previous encounter, needs to maintain tight coverage and physical play against the big and talented receiver. Cornerbacks coach Brandon Lynch highlighted Collins’s ability to stretch the field vertically, making the connection between him and Stroud a potential source of explosive plays.
  2. Leverage QB Joe Flacco’s Arm in the Pass Game: Offensively, the Browns can capitalize on Joe Flacco’s strong arm against the Texans’ defense, which allowed 4,334 total passing yards during the regular season. Since taking over as the starting quarterback in Week 13, Flacco has excelled in the passing game, completing 123 of 204 passes for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Browns aim to push the ball at all three levels of the field, forcing the Texans to defend the entire passing spectrum. Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt highlighted the importance of making the Texans defend the whole field, leveraging Flacco’s accurate downfield throws to keep the opposing defense on its toes.

In the upcoming playoff clash, these three keys will play a crucial role in determining whether the Browns can secure a victory over the Texans and advance further in the postseason.
