Texas Rangers’ emerging talent, Evan Carter, exited Sunday’s spring training game early after being struck on his left forearm by a pitch in the initial inning. In SURPRISE, Ariz., the incident left fans concerned.
Expected to take on the role of the team’s primary left-fielder for the upcoming season, Carter’s departure occurred swiftly following the impact of the pitch on his left forearm during Sunday’s spring training matchup.
After receiving a brief evaluation from trainers and manager Bruce Bochy, Carter, who initially took first base, was promptly substituted by Elier Hernandez. Hernandez filled in not only in left field but also assumed Carter’s position in right field.
Subsequent to negative x-ray results, the team designated Carter’s condition as “day-to-day.”
At 21 years old, Carter played a pivotal role in the Rangers’ journey to the World Series championship last October, making his MLB debut on Sept. 8.
Further updates regarding the extent of Carter’s injury are anticipated as the game progresses.
In their third Cactus League game of the season at Surprise Stadium, the Rangers faced off against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
During the bottom of the first inning, Giants’ left-hander Kyle Harrison struck out Marcus Semien before accidentally hitting Carter, a left-handed hitter. Following Carter’s departure, Hernandez’s attempted steal to second was unsuccessful, and Wyatt Langford ended the inning with a strikeout on a foul tip.
Carter demonstrated his prowess during the regular season, batting .306 with four doubles, five home runs, 12 RBI, and 15 runs in 23 games. His postseason performance further solidified his reputation, with a .300 batting average, nine runs, six RBI, nine doubles, and a home run.
During spring camp, Carter expressed his eagerness to prove himself against left-handed pitchers, an area where he sought improvement. Despite his limited exposure to lefties during the final three weeks of the 2023 regular season, Carter remains the Rangers’ top prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and is anticipated to play a crucial role as an everyday starter in 2024.
