Breaking: Why the Dodgers’ Triple-A Team Won’t Have a Nickname in 2024

The Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, based in Oklahoma City, has opted to temporarily adopt the straightforward name “Oklahoma City Baseball Club” for the 2024 season instead of choosing a specific nickname. The decision stems from the complexities involved in the process of selecting and trademarking a new brand identity.

Team president Michael Byrnes elaborated on this during a press conference, indicating that the unveiling of the permanent nickname is slated for the fall of 2024, following the conclusion of the season. Previously known as the Oklahoma City Dodgers from 2015 to 2023, the team’s rebranding efforts come in the wake of the Dodgers’ sale to Diamond Baseball Holdings in 2021. By maintaining ties to their Oklahoma City roots rather than aligning closely with their parent club, the team aims to forge a strong connection with their local community.

Despite the temporary absence of a specific nickname, the Oklahoma City Baseball Club is entering the 2024 season on the heels of a successful campaign, clinching the Pacific Coast League championship but falling short of the Triple-A National Championship title. Their upcoming season kicks off on March 29 with an away game against Tacoma.
