Texas News: Injury Updates from Surprise

Injury Updates from Surprise: Baseball season is now in full swing, as Pitchers and Catchers, along with the rest of the team, have descended upon Surprise, Arizona, the Spring Training base of the reigning 2023 World Series Champions, the Texas Rangers.

Royals Pitchers Chris Young, Kris Medlen Suffer Injuries

In a recent interview in Arizona, General Manager Chris Young provided updates on the three starting pitchers currently on the injured list. According to Young, all three are progressing according to expectations. Jacob deGrom, the Rangers’ ace, initiated throwing activities last week, with his initial session of playing catch deemed a success. While his anticipated return is slated for August, it remains contingent upon his ongoing progress. New addition Tyler Mahle commenced throwing roughly six weeks ago, with a targeted comeback set for July. Max Scherzer, who incurred a back injury during his final start of the 2023 season, has yet to start throwing but is anticipated to do so in the upcoming weeks. His projected return to the mound is earmarked for June.

Additionally, an injury update was provided on Saturday, revealing that Josh Jung experienced calf soreness on his first day of exercise and subsequently retired from the field. Following an MRI, it was determined that he suffered a calf strain, necessitating a two to three-week recovery period under close medical supervision. Optimistically, he aims to return in peak condition ahead of the Opening Day on March 28th, 2024.

As the team navigates these injury setbacks, many promising prospects are joining the squad for Spring Training, offering potential solutions to fill any void left by injuries during the season. The focus will undoubtedly be on these young Rangers as they hone their skills and make their mark in their debuts. As Spring Training unfolds, this writer will be closely monitoring their progress with keen interest.
