MAJOR BREAKING: Yankees reveals Gleyber Torres perfect replacement

The New York Yankees are actively seeking an infielder following Gleyber Torres’ move to the Detroit Tigers. Anthony Volpe is expected to be the starting shortstop, with Jazz Chisholm or Oswaldo Cabrera potentially filling the second-base position. However, the team recognizes the need to bolster their roster before the season begins.

Jose Iglesias could be a strong candidate. Despite missing significant time in 2023 and part of 2024, Iglesias performed well during his stint with the Mets, hitting .337 with 26 RBIs. At 34, he remains a versatile defender capable of playing second base, shortstop, or third base. His projected salary of $1.7 million for 2025 is a manageable figure for the Yankees.

Gleyber Torres already stuck it to Yankees during his Tigers introductory presser

In 2022, his last full season with the Rockies, Iglesias hit .292 with 47 RBIs and has consistently maintained a batting average above .250 since 2012. His experience and adaptability could make him an asset for Aaron Boone, who would have multiple deployment options for Iglesias. While his age is a consideration, Iglesias continues to demonstrate reliability on both offense and defense, potentially offering an upgrade over Torres in both areas.
