Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung is set to miss at least three weeks due to a low-grade calf strain, announced manager Bruce Bochy on Saturday. Jung, who recently celebrated his 26th birthday, sustained the injury while fielding ground balls during a practice session on Friday. Despite this setback, Jung had an impressive rookie season, earning a spot on the All-Star team. He posted solid numbers, batting .266 with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs over 122 games for the Rangers, who went on to clinch the World Series title.
Unfortunately, injuries have plagued Jung throughout his career. In 2021, he battled a stress fracture that sidelined him until June. The following year, a shoulder injury required surgery to repair a torn labrum, keeping him out of action until August. Reflecting on his experiences, Jung emphasized the importance of staying healthy, acknowledging his injury-ridden past.
Despite setbacks, Jung has demonstrated resilience and performed well when healthy. Last August, he returned from a broken left thumb to contribute significantly in the postseason, batting .308 with three home runs and eight RBIs in just 13 games. The Rangers drafted Jung with the eighth overall pick in the 2019 draft from Texas Tech University.
