Just In: 31 Years Star Player reaches 2-year, $14M deal with Rangers to avoid arbitration

ALCS MVP Adolis García has signed a two-year contract extension with the Texas Rangers, avoiding arbitration. The deal, announced on Thursday, is worth $14 million initially, but with incentives, it could potentially reach $20.25 million over the duration of the contract.

Adolis García named 2023 ALCS MVP

This agreement comes after negotiations between García and the Rangers initially showed a significant gap, with the team offering $5 million for the 2024 season and García’s camp asking for $6.9 million. However, with this extension, arbitration is bypassed, ensuring García remains with the Rangers through the 2025 season, pending a physical examination.

García, aged 30, gained prominence during the postseason, contributing significantly to the Rangers’ World Series victory, their first in franchise history. He made MLB history during the ALCS against the Houston Astros by setting a record for the most RBI in a single postseason series with 15. His standout performances included five home runs in the series and a remarkable showing in the decisive Game 7. Throughout the postseason, García maintained an impressive batting line of .323/.382/.726 with eight home runs and 22 RBI in 15 games.

Despite gaining wider recognition during the postseason, García has been a consistent performer for the Rangers since joining the team as a rookie in 2021 at the age of 28. He earned his first All-Star selection that season and finished fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting. García continued his success in the following season, making his second All-Star appearance and earning a Gold Glove in right field.

For the 2023 season, García posted a slash line of .245/.328/.508 with 39 home runs, 107 RBI, and nine stolen bases. His role will remain pivotal as the Rangers aim to defend their World Series title in 2024.
