The Buffalo Bills have consistently been in the AFC playoff mix, but they’ve yet to break through to the Super Bowl. As they aim to reshape their roster for another deep run, salary cap constraints could force them to make difficult personnel decisions this offseason.
Several veterans, including former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, could be on the chopping block as the Bills look to free up cap space.
Von Miller’s Future in Buffalo Uncertain
Though Miller is a likely Hall of Famer, his tenure in Buffalo may be nearing its end. According to Sara Lawson of Buffalo Rumblings (SB Nation), the veteran pass rusher is a prime candidate for release.
“Miller is probably the most logical and easiest roster decision this offseason,” Lawson explained. “He is set to count $23.8 million against the cap in 2025, and releasing him would save the team just over $8 million.”
Buffalo is currently projected to be $12 million over the salary cap entering the new league year, per Spotrac. That financial reality makes it essential for the team to restructure contracts or cut high-priced veterans.
Potential Contract Restructure for Miller?
Instead of releasing Miller outright—which would result in a $15.4 million dead cap hit—the Bills could try to renegotiate his deal. Lawson suggested that a reduced, incentive-based contract could be a compromise.
“Since Von’s contract is non-guaranteed, he might be willing to negotiate down from his $17.1 million base salary and agree to an incentive-heavy deal,” Lawson noted. “This would allow Buffalo to save a similar amount of cap space while keeping Miller on the roster.”
Is Miller Still an Impact Player?
Miller’s production in Buffalo has not lived up to his contract. In 36 regular season games with the Bills, he has recorded just 14 sacks and 41 tackles. At 35 years old, his ability to remain an elite pass rusher is in question. His last double-digit sack season was in 2018, and very few edge rushers have sustained high-level play into their late 30s.
If the Bills and Miller can’t agree on a more team-friendly deal, he could be a cap casualty this offseason.

Other Bills Players at Risk of Being Cut
Miller isn’t the only veteran on the roster bubble. Other potential cap casualties include:
- Tre’Davious White (CB) – A former All-Pro cornerback, White has struggled with injuries and carries a significant cap hit.
- Jordan Poyer (S) – A key part of Buffalo’s defense in recent years, but with age and salary concerns, he could be a cut candidate.
- Dion Dawkins (LT) – An anchor on the offensive line, but his high salary could make him expendable if the Bills need financial flexibility.
With the offseason approaching, Buffalo will have to make some tough decisions. Whether it’s Miller or other high-priced veterans, expect some major moves as the Bills look to position themselves for another Super Bowl push.
