Johni Broome and Two Auburn Tigers Make Major Career Decisions

February 7, 2025 – Auburn, AL — Auburn University is seeing a wave of major career moves as basketball star Johni Broome and two other Tigers athletes have made crucial decisions regarding their futures.

Johni Broome Declares for NBA Draft

Auburn’s standout forward Johni Broome has officially declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, opting to take his talents to the professional level after a dominant season. The senior big man has been a force in the SEC, averaging a double-double while leading the Tigers in scoring and rebounding.

“This has been an incredible journey at Auburn,” Broome said in a statement. “I’ve grown as a player and as a person, and I’m ready to take the next step in my career.”

Broome’s decision comes as no surprise, as he’s projected to be a potential first-round pick thanks to his elite shot-blocking ability, versatility, and improved perimeter game.

Trill Carter Steps Away from Football

In a more unexpected move, Auburn defensive lineman Trill Carter has announced his decision to retire from football. Carter, who transferred to Auburn in 2024, cited personal reasons for stepping away from the game.

“Football has given me so much, but after careful thought, I’ve decided to move on to the next chapter of my life,” Carter shared in a social media post. “I’m grateful for my time at Auburn and the love and support from my coaches and teammates.”

Xavier Chaplin Transfers to Auburn

Meanwhile, Auburn’s football program received a boost as offensive lineman Xavier Chaplin announced his transfer to the Tigers. The 6-foot-6, 350-pound lineman, previously at Virginia Tech, brings size and experience to Auburn’s offensive line, a key area of focus for head coach Hugh Freeze.

“I wanted to be part of something special, and Auburn felt like the perfect fit,” Chaplin said. “I can’t wait to get to work and contribute to this team.”

Auburn’s Future Moving Forward

With Broome set to turn pro, Carter stepping away, and Chaplin joining the program, Auburn fans have plenty to keep an eye on as these players embark on their next steps. As March Madness and spring football approach, the Tigers will look to build on their successes while adjusting to these significant roster changes.
