In Broome’s absence, the Tigers have turned to senior forward Chaney Johnson to fill the void. Johnson, who has been averaging 10.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season, stepped up significantly in the team’s recent matchups. Notably, in a decisive 88-66 victory over No. 15 Mississippi State on January 15, Johnson contributed 17 points and eight rebounds, showcasing his capability to perform under pressure.
Head coach Bruce Pearl has expressed confidence in Johnson’s ability to lead the team during this period. “Chaney has been a consistent contributor for us all season,” Pearl remarked. “His experience and leadership are invaluable, and we’re confident he can continue to fill the role left by Johni.”
While Broome’s return is anticipated, the Tigers are expected to continue relying on Johnson’s leadership and the depth of their roster to maintain their competitive edge in the Southeastern Conference.
