Auburn University reported six minor injuries following a rush to the gates at Neville Arena on Saturday, but no verified reports of broken bones. The incident occurred before the men’s basketball game between Auburn and Tennessee, during which students had to line up early to secure wristbands for the student section. Social media rumors spread about severe injuries, including broken bones, but Auburn clarified that only minor injuries were treated on-site, and no students were transported to the hospital.
The event occurred after a deviation from the usual procedure for large games. Students were asked to begin lining up at 6:30 a.m., and when the doors opened at 7 a.m., some individuals bypassed the barricades, causing a rush that resulted in minor injuries. Auburn acknowledged the situation and stated that a few students were impacted by the commotion, but emphasized it was brief.
Auburn also mentioned that the cold temperatures led to changes in the admission process, and that they are reviewing the incident and feedback from students to improve future entry procedures for men’s basketball games. The university assured that student safety remains a top priority. The Tigers will continue hosting games at Neville Arena with six more home games remaining this season.
