SEC Announces Johni Broome News Following Tennessee-Auburn Clash

When Johni Broome decided to return for his fifth season to pursue a national title alongside head coach Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers, expectations soared for Auburn to emerge as one of the top teams in the nation. Now, 19 games into the season, Auburn has delivered on those expectations, holding an 18-1 record and claiming the No. 1 spot in the rankings within the fiercely competitive SEC, widely regarded as the toughest conference in college basketball this year.

The Tigers recently secured a hard-fought 53-51 victory over the No. 8 Tennessee Volunteers, a game that marked Broome’s return after a two-week absence due to an ankle injury. Despite being a game-time decision, Broome made a significant impact, earning SEC Player of the Week honors on Monday—a testament to his stellar play this season and his standing as a National Player of the Year candidate.

Coming off the bench to ease back into action, Broome logged a team-high 33 minutes and delivered a dominant performance. He led Auburn with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks, including seven offensive rebounds, demonstrating his influence on both ends of the floor. On the season, Broome is averaging 17.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.8 blocks, and 0.8 steals, while shooting 53.2% from the field and 28.9% from three-point range.

Tennessee Fans Pulled the Tiger's Tail, Auburn's Johni Broome Made Them Pay

Broome, who began his college career with two seasons at Morehead State before transferring to Auburn, has become the centerpiece of the Tigers’ national championship aspirations in his third season with the program. His leadership and production have solidified Auburn’s position as one of the elite teams in the country, with their eyes firmly set on cutting down the nets in March.
