BREAKING NEWS: Virginia Tech Legend returns as coach

Virginia Tech has named former fullback Jarrett Ferguson as the new head strength and conditioning coach for the Hokies football program. Ferguson, a Goodview, Virginia native, had an accomplished playing career at Staunton River High School before joining Frank Beamer’s Hokies from 1998 to 2001. During his time as a fullback, Ferguson was a key contributor to four bowl teams, including the 1999 squad that reached the national championship game.

Drafted in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, Ferguson eventually returned to Virginia Tech to serve on the strength and conditioning staff under renowned coach Mike Gentry, a member of the USA Strength and Conditioning Coaches Hall of Fame. Ferguson spent 13 years working with Gentry before leaving in 2018. He returned in 2022 as an assistant director of the program and has now been promoted to lead the department.

Mike Gentry praised Ferguson in a statement: “Jarrett Ferguson represents the best of Virginia Tech Athletics. He was one of the premier players on championship football teams and achieved his success the old-fashioned way. He earned it. Jarrett is a man of honor and character who understands the value of unselfish hard work. Virginia Tech got stronger today.”

Ferguson’s promotion is a testament to his deep ties to the Hokies and his dedication to the program. Congratulations to Jarrett Ferguson on his new role as head strength and conditioning coach.
