The Pittsburgh Steelers face a pivotal offseason heading into 2025, with several key free agents whose decisions could shape the team’s future. Here are four players the Steelers should prioritize re-signing:
1. QB Justin Fields
Justin Fields showed promise during his limited time as the starting quarterback, going 4-2 before Russell Wilson’s return from injury. Fields offers a dual-threat capability, excelling both as a passer and runner. Under Arthur Smith’s system, he posted career-best numbers, including a 93.3 passer rating and a 0.1% interception rate. At just 25 years old, Fields represents a low-cost option with significant long-term potential.
2. RB Jaylen Warren (RFA)
Jaylen Warren, a third-year undrafted free agent, has been an effective complement in the Steelers’ backfield. Despite missing three games in 2024, Warren’s 31% missed tackle rate led all running backs (minimum 250 carries), and he averaged 4.8 yards per carry. His affordability and efficiency make him a valuable asset in a run-heavy offense, especially with a deep 2025 draft class at running back.
3. ILB Elandon Roberts
Elandon Roberts played a key role as a run defender and provided depth in the linebacker rotation. Despite reduced snaps in 2024, he recorded 10 pressures (second most in his career) and earned the team’s highest run-defense grade. With Cole Holcomb potentially becoming a cap casualty, Roberts’ experience and production make him a priority to retain.
4. WR Ben Skowronek
Ben Skowronek’s contributions on special teams were a consistent highlight in 2024. While his offensive role was minimal, he made critical plays, including recovering a muffed punt against Cleveland in Week 14. Skowronek tied for the second-most special teams tackles despite playing only 11 games, earning high marks for his reliability in this phase of the game.
These four players provide value in critical roles, and their re-signings could help solidify the Steelers’ roster for the 2025 season.
