JUST IN : Braves Add Veteran Catcher of high class for Depth, Per Report

The Atlanta Braves have reportedly signed former San Francisco Giants catcher Curt Casali to a minor league contract, according to recent reports.

Casali, a 36-year-old catcher with 11 years of MLB experience, has primarily served as a reserve since his debut in 2014. He began his career with the Tampa Bay Rays and later played for the Seattle Mariners, along with two separate stints each with the Cincinnati Reds and Giants.

Last season, Casali appeared in 41 games with the Giants. Known for his defensive skills and near-league average offensive production for a catcher, his performance has gradually declined in recent years. Nevertheless, he offers the Braves additional depth behind Sean Murphy, who is expected to handle the bulk of catching duties in Atlanta. Chadwick Tromp is projected to be Murphy’s primary backup, while Sandy León, who spent last season with Triple-A Gwinnett, returns to the organization. Additionally, the Braves added Dylan Shockley via the minor league Rule 5 draft from the Pirates for more depth at Gwinnett.

Top catching prospect Drake Baldwin is also expected to begin the season with Gwinnett and could make his MLB debut in 2025.

If Casali officially joins the Braves, he could serve as a reliable backup while helping develop Baldwin at Triple-A. He also offers a short-term solution if the Braves need additional catching support at the major league level.
