Auburn Lands Commitment from Son of Former NFL First-Round Pick
The Auburn Tigers continue to excel in recruiting, securing a commitment from Devin Carter, the nation’s No. 5 wide receiver for the class of 2026. Carter, a standout from Douglas County High School in Douglasville, Georgia, is the son of Dexter Carter, a former Florida State running back and first-round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft.
Carter’s talent and potential have been evident, with MaxPreps recording his impressive 2024 stats: 41 receptions, 669 yards, and five touchdowns. His ability to separate from defenders has made him one of the most sought-after recruits in the country, ranked No. 26 overall by ESPN. Despite playing in a balanced offense with limited touches, Carter consistently makes an impact with his athleticism and football IQ, as showcased in his game highlights on HUDL.
One standout play against Carrollton High School demonstrated Carter’s exceptional ability to tightrope the sideline, make a leaping catch, and secure it inbounds—a testament to his athletic gifts and awareness. His speed to get open, hand-eye coordination, and ability to make tough catches look effortless are traits that make him a game-changing player.
At 6 feet tall and 165 pounds, Carter often faces bracket coverage and other defensive schemes aimed at containing him. However, Auburn’s dynamic wide receiver room, which includes top talents like Malcolm Simmons, Cam Coleman, Bryce Cain, and others, will make it difficult for opponents to focus solely on Carter. Whether lining up in the slot or out wide, he’ll have opportunities to thrive alongside other elite playmakers.
Carter excels not only in catching deep balls but also in making plays on screens and short passes, using his quickness and agility to elude defenders. His ability to create big plays after the catch will be a significant asset for Auburn’s offense.
With one more high school season ahead, Carter has already given Auburn fans plenty to be excited about. His addition bolsters the Tigers’ 2026 class, which currently ranks No. 6 nationally according to 247Sports, and further solidifies Auburn’s bright future at wide receiver.
