The Atlanta Braves are seen as an ideal fit for Los Angeles Dodgers free agent pitcher Jack Flaherty, who is projected to command a contract worth around $100 million. After struggling with pitching depth due to injuries in 2024 and losing Max Fried and Charlie Morton this offseason, the Braves urgently need to bolster their rotation ahead of the 2025 season.
Austin Owens of FanSided highlighted Flaherty as a strong option for Atlanta, citing his combination of reliability and affordability. Flaherty is reportedly open to short-term deals with high average annual values, as noted by Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic. This approach could appeal to Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos. Owens wrote, “Adding a proven veteran would be critical for the Braves given the gaps left by Fried and Morton’s departures. Flaherty would complement reigning Cy Young winner Chris Sale and serve as a mentor to rising talent Spencer Schwellenbach.”
While Flaherty may not be a Cy Young contender, he is known for his consistency and talent. Signing him could provide a cost-effective solution for the Braves, avoiding the hefty $200 million price tag it would take to re-sign Fried. Pairing Flaherty with another veteran like Max Scherzer on a short-term deal could revitalize Atlanta’s pitching staff heading into the new season.
