JUST IN: padres set to loose a star to a heated rival

The Los Angeles Dodgers are predicted to make a major move in free agency by signing star pitcher Tanner Scott, potentially swiping him from their rival, the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers and Padres share one of the fiercest rivalries in sports, which was on full display during their heated 2024 postseason series involving intense exchanges among players, fans, and coaches. This rivalry may now extend to the offseason.

R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports recently projected that the Dodgers would sign Scott, who was acquired by the Padres at the 2024 trade deadline in exchange for a significant haul of prospects. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Scott is expected to command a contract worth $54 million.

“Scott’s an obvious target for every contender and was linked to both the Yankees and Dodgers earlier this winter,” Anderson noted. “The Yankees have since traded for Devin Williams, while the Dodgers have yet to bolster their bullpen. The Dodgers don’t lose many bidding wars, so we’ll go ahead and pencil them in.”

Adding Scott seems like an ideal fit for Los Angeles, both financially and strategically. The Dodgers have the resources to secure the left-handed closer and currently lack a definitive option for the role. While Evan Phillips and Blake Treinen are strong right-handed bullpen options, Scott would bring elite production from the left side, giving manager Dave Roberts greater flexibility in late-game situations.

A move to Los Angeles appears realistic and beneficial for both parties, making Scott a likely candidate to join the Dodgers for the upcoming season.
