JUST IN: Cubs land Blockbuster Trade for $108 Million Top Prospect star

Blockbuster Trade Proposal Could Send $108 Million Ace Luis Castillo to Cubs for Top Prospect

The Seattle Mariners are reportedly open to trading ace pitcher Luis Castillo if it helps bolster their big league roster for a 2025 World Series push. Among potential suitors, Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer sees the Chicago Cubs as a prime destination for the $108 million right-hander.

Rymer proposed a hypothetical trade scenario that would bring Castillo to Chicago:

Trade Proposal:

  • Chicago Cubs receive: RHP Luis Castillo, Cash
  • Seattle Mariners receive: OF Owen Caissie (No. 2 prospect)

“The Cubs’ rotation is arguably solid, but it lacked swing-and-miss ability this year,” Rymer noted. “Only two starting staffs allowed a higher contact rate, while even this version of Castillo was in the 53rd percentile for whiff rate. For the Mariners, the Cubs’ farm system is so strong that it’s worth covering part of Castillo’s remaining salary to acquire a top prospect like Caissie.”

Owen Caissie, 22, is a promising outfielder with an MLB-ready skillset. With a minor league OPS over .850, he has proven he’s ready to make an impact at the major league level. For Seattle, acquiring Caissie would provide a long-term asset who could contribute immediately.

For the Cubs, adding Castillo would strengthen their rotation and enhance their chances of contending in the National League Central in 2025. Chicago has shown a clear commitment to competing at a high level next season, and acquiring Castillo would be a significant move toward that goal.

This trade proposal highlights how both teams could benefit, with Seattle gaining a rising star and Chicago landing a proven ace to boost their title aspirations.
