Cubs Could Trade $85 Million Outfielder to AL Contender
The Chicago Cubs have had a busy offseason, highlighted by the blockbuster trade of Cody Bellinger and the acquisition of Kyle Tucker. However, additional moves could still be on the horizon. Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer predicts the Cubs might trade outfielder Seiya Suzuki, even after dealing Bellinger. Rymer suggests a potential trade with the Detroit Tigers involving first baseman Spencer Torkelson.

Rymer notes the Tigers’ interest in free agents like Alex Bregman and Anthony Santander but highlights their lack of a reliable right-handed hitter. In 2024, Detroit’s offense saw a stark contrast in performance, with a +27 run value from left-handed hitters and -63 from the right side. Suzuki, a consistent right-handed bat, could help balance their lineup.
The Tigers’ highly ranked farm system (No. 3 in MLB) gives them the assets to tempt the Cubs. Torkelson alone could be enough to sway Chicago, allowing them to shift Michael Busch to third base to replace Isaac Paredes. Adding Bryce Rainer, a promising shortstop prospect, would further sweeten the deal.
For Detroit, Suzuki would address their right-handed hitting woes, although they might not need to part with such a significant package to land him.
