Clemson Faces Setback Amid College Football Playoff Aspirations
Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers are regrouping after a challenging 2024 season, aiming for another shot at a national championship. Clemson wrapped up the year with a 10-4 record, earning a spot in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff following a victory in the ACC Championship. However, their playoff run ended in disappointment with a 38-24 loss to the Texas Longhorns.
As the Tigers prepare for the 2025 season and strive for a deeper playoff run, they’ve been hit with some tough news from the transfer portal. Defensive lineman Tre Williams has entered the portal, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.
Williams, a seasoned veteran for Clemson, contributed two sacks and 14 tackles during the 2024 season. Over his five-year tenure with the Tigers, he accumulated 37 tackles, four sacks, and two pass deflections. A former four-star recruit, Williams was ranked as the No. 11 defensive tackle and No. 94 overall player in the nation by 247Sports. The 6-foot-2 standout drew offers from several powerhouse programs, including Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Florida State, before committing to Clemson.
Losing a player of Williams’ experience and talent is a blow to Clemson as they look to strengthen their roster for another championship pursuit.
