West Virginia Transfer OL Tomas Rimac Joins Virginia Tech in Major Addition
Just days after firing offensive line coach Ron Crook, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry announced the hiring of Matt Moore from West Virginia to rebuild a struggling offensive line. Moore, known for developing NFL-caliber linemen, steps in to address significant losses, including Parker Clements and Kaden Moore, who have exhausted their eligibility. Additionally, Kaden’s brother, Braelin Moore, transferred to LSU, while standout lineman Xavier Chaplin committed to Auburn after entering the transfer portal.
Amid this rebuilding effort, Moore secured his first portal addition: Tomas Rimac, a 6-foot-6, 318-pound lineman who played under Moore at West Virginia. Rimac entered the portal just days ago and now follows his former coach to Blacksburg. This is a critical pickup for the Hokies, as Rimac brings extensive experience, having started nearly 30 games for the Mountaineers.
Rimac was a cornerstone for West Virginia this season, starting all 13 games, including their loss to Memphis in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl on Dec. 17. Two days later, he entered the portal. A two-time All-Big 12 honorable mention, Rimac posted impressive Pro Football Focus grades, including a 77.1 overall and an 86.3 pass-blocking grade.
This marks an excellent start to Virginia Tech’s offensive line rebuild, bringing in a proven, experienced player who thrived under Moore’s coaching. While there’s still a long way to go for Pry and Moore, Rimac’s addition is a significant step forward.
