Virginia Tech’s offseason roster rebuild gained momentum this week, highlighted by the addition of two talented defensive backs from the transfer portal.
The Hokies first secured a commitment from former East Carolina cornerback Isaiah Brown-Murray on Saturday. A native of Cornelius, North Carolina, the 5-foot-10, 191-pound Brown-Murray was a three-star recruit who redshirted in 2022. Over the last two seasons, he appeared in 24 games with 21 starts, amassing 69 tackles, one interception, and eight passes defended.
With Virginia Tech losing starting cornerbacks Mansoor Delane (transfer portal to LSU) and Dorian Strong (NFL draft), Brown-Murray is a strong candidate to start alongside Dante Lovett in 2025. He brings two years of eligibility and adds much-needed depth to the Hokies’ cornerback rotation, though the team is expected to continue adding players at the position.
Later on Saturday, Rice safety Tyson Flowers announced his decision to join the Hokies. A 5-foot-11, 211-pound native of Fort Worth, Texas, Flowers redshirted in 2022 after appearing in three games. In 2023, he played 11 games, recording 25 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack, and earned his first two career starts.
In 2024, Flowers started 10 games, finishing with 38 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two interceptions—one of which he returned for a touchdown. With the Hokies losing safeties Jalen Stroman (transfer portal), Jaylen Jones (graduation), and Mose Phillips (transfer portal to Vanderbilt), Flowers joins former Clemson safety Sherrod Covil as key additions to the safety group. Both will compete with rising sophomore Quentin Reddish for starting roles.
Welcome to Blacksburg, Isaiah and Tyson!
