Kansas State Secures Commitment from Ohio State Transfer Gabe Powers

Manhattan, KS – December 23, 2024
Kansas State has made a significant addition to its roster, winning the recruiting battle for former Ohio State linebacker Gabe Powers. The redshirt sophomore, who entered the transfer portal earlier this month, announced his decision to join the Wildcats, bolstering an already strong defensive unit.

Powers, a highly-touted 4-star recruit out of high school, saw limited action during his time with the Buckeyes but displayed flashes of his potential in special teams and rotational roles. Standing at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, Powers brings size, athleticism, and versatility to the Wildcats’ linebacker corps.

Head coach Chris Klieman expressed enthusiasm about the addition, stating, “Gabe is a tremendous talent with a high football IQ. He has the physical tools and the mindset to make an immediate impact for us.”

Powers’ decision to join Kansas State came after heavy interest from several Power Five programs, including Big 12 rivals. His commitment underscores the Wildcats’ growing reputation as a program capable of attracting top-tier talent.
