José Leger, the current manager of the Springfield Cardinals, has been promoted to a new role within the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Starting immediately, he will serve as the assistant minor league field coordinator and baserunning coordinator, stepping into an important developmental position for the franchise.
Leger has been a part of the Cardinals organization for seven years, including his tenure as Springfield’s manager from 2021 to 2024. Prior to that, he served as the Latin American Field & Development Coordinator from 2018 to 2020, showcasing his expertise in player development at multiple levels of the system.
During his time with the Springfield Cardinals, Leger contributed significantly to developing key players who have become crucial to the St. Louis Cardinals’ success. Notable names include Brendan Donovan, Jordan Walker, Nolan Gorman, Masyn Winn, Gordon Graceffo, Alec Burleson, and Ivan Herrera, among others. His leadership at Hammons Field over the past three years has been instrumental in advancing these prospects.
The Springfield Cardinals now face the task of finding a new manager to replace Leger. His departure leaves big shoes to fill, as his contributions to the team extended beyond player development to fostering a winning culture within the organization.
