Yankees Reportedly Eyeing Two Free Agents
After missing the playoffs in 2023, the New York Yankees rebounded in 2024 by winning the American League East and making it to the World Series.
Despite a successful season, the Yankees faced a major offseason setback when star player Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets on a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million deal.
In response, the Yankees bolstered their roster with key acquisitions, including starting pitcher Max Fried, reliever Devin Williams, and outfielder Cody Bellinger. However, they are still looking to address the need for a first baseman and are reportedly targeting two veteran free agents.
The Yankees are expected to focus on more cost-effective options, with two experienced players fitting their needs:
- Paul Goldschmidt, 37, a 14-year MLB veteran who debuted with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011. In 2024, he appeared in 154 games for the St. Louis Cardinals, hitting .245 with 22 home runs, 65 RBIs, and a .716 OPS.
- Carlos Santana, 38, a 15-year MLB veteran who began his career with the Cleveland Guardians in 2010. In 2024, he played 150 games for the Minnesota Twins, posting a .238 batting average with 23 home runs, 71 RBIs, and a .749 OPS.
Both players are under consideration as the Yankees aim to solidify their lineup for the 2025 season.
