GOOD NEWS: Virginia Tech Secures Key Defensive Piece with Return for 2025

Virginia Tech football’s defense has received a major boost as standout linebacker Jaden Keller announced he will return for the 2025 season. Amidst a challenging offseason for head coach Brent Pry, marked by player departures to the transfer portal and NFL Draft, Keller’s decision brings stability to the Hokies’ defensive unit.

Keller, a Tennessee native, was a breakout performer in 2024. Over 12 games, he amassed 76 tackles, including 32 solo stops, and recovered two fumbles. His season highlights include a career-high 10 tackles against Boston College in October and standout performances with nine tackles each against Syracuse and Rutgers. He also posted eight tackles in key games versus Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Virginia.

Set to play as the Mike linebacker in Virginia Tech’s upcoming bowl game against Minnesota, Keller will likely team up with Sam Brumfield, with Kaleb Spencer and Caleb Woodson also contributing.

Keller’s return comes as the Hokies make significant coaching changes, with defensive coordinator Chris Marve and three assistants recently dismissed. Shawn Quinn will oversee defensive duties for the bowl game, with input from Brent Pry and former Hokies legend Bud Foster. Looking ahead to 2025, the incoming defensive coordinator will inherit a defense anchored by Keller in his final year of eligibility, providing leadership and proven production at the second level.

Keller shared the news of his return on Instagram, solidifying his role as a key figure for Virginia Tech’s defense as they prepare to regroup and rebuild for the future.
