JUST IN: Tigers’ Prospects Who’s Untouchable and Who Could Be Moved

The Detroit Tigers’ farm system is starting to yield promising results. To build on their playoff momentum and Tarik Skubal’s Cy Young-winning season, Detroit might need to part with some of its top prospects for MLB-ready talent if free-agent spending isn’t in the cards.

While Jackson Jobe and Jace Jung, both of whom made their MLB debuts in 2024, are likely untouchable, the Tigers have other prospects they could leverage in offseason trade discussions.

Untouchable Prospects

1. Max Clark, CF
The Tigers’ 2023 No. 3 overall pick, Max Clark, has quickly risen through the ranks, progressing from Rookie ball to High-A within two seasons. His adaptability is evident, as he improved from a shaky start in Single-A to hitting .286/.386/.421 upon returning to Lakeland. With a strong work ethic, visible through his consistent training, Clark has the potential to become a five-tool player. His development is integral to Detroit’s young core and brand identity.

2. Hao-Yu Lee, 2B
Acquired in the Michael Lorenzen trade, Hao-Yu Lee has delivered on his promise, producing a 141 wRC+ at Double-A in 2024. His blend of speed and power could make him a 20-20 player in the Majors. However, his inability to stay healthy for a full season is a concern. Detroit is likely to bet on his long-term potential, hoping improved conditioning will unlock consistent availability.

3. Thayron Liranzo, C/1B
Thayron Liranzo joined the Tigers as part of the Jack Flaherty trade and has since emerged as a key prospect. With standout performances in High-A and the Arizona Fall League, where he won Fall Stars Game MVP, Liranzo has shown elite offensive potential. While his future as a catcher remains uncertain, his experience at first base gives Detroit flexibility in managing their roster.

Dispensable (but Valuable) Prospects

1. Troy Melton, RHP
A 2022 fourth-round pick, Troy Melton impressed with a 2.74 ERA in his first full season of pro ball but struggled after reaching Double-A. Factors like the hitter-friendly Eastern League and a declining ground-ball rate have highlighted areas for improvement. Melton’s potential as a mid-rotation starter makes him an appealing trade chip for teams seeking pitching depth.

2. Roberto Campos, OF
Roberto Campos led Tigers’ High-A prospects with a .272 batting average this season, but his path to the Majors is lengthy. With outfield depth often easier to address through the draft, Detroit might prefer to trade Campos for immediate help. His ability to develop power remains a project for whichever team works with him next.

By balancing untouchable assets with tradeable talent, the Tigers are poised to strengthen their roster for another playoff run.
