Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell offered a disappointing update on defensive end John Cominsky’s recovery, stating that the team does not anticipate his return this season. Cominsky, who tore his MCL during training camp, has been diligently rehabbing, but Campbell acknowledged that overcoming the final hurdles in his recovery has been challenging.
“I think it’s unlikely. He’s tried, he’s been rehabbing,” Campbell said. “He’s doing it, it’s just trying to get over the last little hump here, it’s been tough. He’s done everything he can, and those guys are doing a heckuva job rehabbing him. But I think it’s unlikely.”
Cominsky has been an integral part of the Lions’ defensive rotation since joining the team via waivers in 2022. Over the past two seasons, he appeared in 30 games (19 starts), contributing 66 tackles and six sacks. With the Lions already dealing with multiple injuries on the defensive line, Cominsky’s return would have been a significant boost, but it seems unlikely for this year.
Despite the setback, Campbell highlighted the team’s dedication to supporting Cominsky’s recovery, ensuring he has the resources needed to return healthy and ready for future seasons.
