K.J. Osborn waived by Patriots; should the Vikings consider a reunion?
After four years with the Minnesota Vikings, wide receiver K.J. Osborn joined the New England Patriots on a one-year, $4 million deal last offseason. However, his stint in New England has ended, with Adam Schefter reporting that the two parties mutually decided to part ways just 14 weeks into the regular season.
Osborn was a dependable No. 3 receiver during his time in Minnesota, delivering three consecutive seasons (2021-2023) with over 500 receiving yards and 48+ catches. This year was expected to be his opportunity to step into a bigger role, but he struggled to find his footing in New England, falling down the depth chart.
In seven games with the Patriots, Osborn managed only seven receptions for 57 yards and one touchdown, as New England leaned on receivers like DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Kendrick Bourne.
Meanwhile, in Minnesota, Jalen Nailor has stepped up as the No. 3 receiver, starting the season strong with seven catches for 106 yards and three touchdowns in the first three weeks. However, his production has slowed, with just 11 catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns since. With tight end T.J. Hockenson back from injury, the Vikings’ top three pass-catchers—Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Hockenson—are well-established.
At 27, Osborn likely wouldn’t command more than a veteran minimum free-agent deal. If Nailor were to suffer an injury, the Vikings would need to rely on Trent Sherfield Sr., Brandon Powell, and Trishton Jackson, making Osborn a logical depth addition.
With an 11-2 record and legitimate postseason aspirations, the Vikings have a strong foundation. While re-signing Osborn wouldn’t be a game-changing move, his familiarity with the team and system could make him a valuable piece if needed.
