The New York Yankees had been focused on re-signing Juan Soto, but after the star outfielder signed with the New York Mets, the Yankees must now turn to Plan B. While there is no single player who can fully replace Soto, the Yankees will likely need to get creative and add multiple pieces to make up for his production.
With the major free agent domino of Soto falling, the Yankees now have a clearer picture of their options. One player drawing significant interest from New York is outfielder Anthony Santander. According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Yankees are showing strong interest in the one-time All-Star, who is coming off a career-best season with 44 home runs and 102 RBIs, though his batting average was .235.
Despite that, Santander remains one of the top hitters available on the market, and any team that signs him would add a potent power bat to the middle of their lineup. As a switch-hitter, Santander also offers additional value
The Yankees are not the only team pursuing him; the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays are also reportedly interested in the 30-year-old. If the Orioles do not retain Santander, he would be a valuable addition to any of these teams.
