JUST IN: Yankees set to trade key player.

The New York Yankees are exploring various offseason strategies, including trades, as they prepare for potential roster changes following their 2024 World Series performance. While much of the baseball world awaits Juan Soto’s free-agency decision, the Yankees are evaluating other moves to strengthen their team.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand identified Marcus Stroman, a 10-year veteran and current Yankees pitcher, as a key trade candidate. Stroman, set to earn $18 million next season, struggled in 2024, posting a 4.31 ERA over 154.2 innings. Despite being on the Yankees’ World Series roster, he didn’t pitch during the postseason. Analysts suggest trading Stroman could free up resources for upgrades, such as a more reliable starter or addressing needs at first base.

In addition, the Yankees are considering shortstop Willy Adames as a “Plan B” option. Adames, a free agent after a career year with the Milwaukee Brewers, hit 32 home runs with 112 RBIs while slashing .251/.331/.462 in 161 games. However, decisions about other moves may hinge on Soto’s choice, expected by the end of the Winter Meetings in Dallas.

The Yankees are poised to act quickly as they aim to retool their roster following a 94-68 season, preparing for a more competitive 2025 campaign.
