Recruiting Update: Gains and Losses for Clemson and South Carolina
With early signing day approaching, Clemson and South Carolina are making adjustments to their recruiting classes for 2025, experiencing both gains and losses.
Clemson Updates
- Departures:
Clemson lost highly regarded safety Jordan Young (6-0, 165), who flipped his commitment to Michigan. Young, initially committed to Clemson for nearly a month, had also considered N.C. State and visited Michigan multiple times before changing his decision. - Additions:
Clemson gained a commitment from offensive tackle Tucker Kattus (6-5, 304), who flipped from Kentucky despite not visiting Clemson. Kattus, who had a long list of offers from schools including Missouri, Arkansas, and Georgia Tech, becomes the Tigers’ fifth offensive lineman in their 2025 class.Quarterback Chris Denson (6-3, 190) also committed to Clemson after decommitting from Coastal Carolina. Denson had an impressive senior season, amassing 2,334 passing yards with 28 touchdowns and over 1,100 rushing yards. His versatility fills a key need for Clemson following the flip of quarterback Blake Hebert to Notre Dame.
South Carolina Updates
- Additions:
The Gamecocks continue to build their class with commitments from players like wide receiver Jackson Repp (5-8, 160). Despite recovering from an ACL injury, Repp’s junior highlights and strong summer performance convinced South Carolina to offer him a spot.Safety Steve Miller (6-2, 215), a former Mississippi State commit now leaning toward South Carolina or Southern Cal, recently visited Columbia and praised the program’s trajectory. - Key Battles:
South Carolina remains in contention for defensive tackle Kevin Wynn, currently committed to Florida State, and others like 2026 cornerback Samari Matthews and 2026 offensive lineman Zyon Guiles, both considering Clemson and USC among their top schools.
