Two St. Louis Cardinals Players Announce Departures as Offseason Moves Begin

As the St. Louis Cardinals head into a pivotal offseason, two players have confirmed their departures from the organization. Outfielder Kyle Anderson and relief pitcher Mark Delgado announced they are leaving the Cardinals, signaling the start of significant roster changes for the team following a disappointing season.

Kyle Anderson: Stepping Away from Baseball

Veteran outfielder Kyle Anderson has announced his decision to retire after nine seasons in Major League Baseball, five of which he spent with the Cardinals. Known for his speed and defensive excellence in the outfield, Anderson cited a desire to focus on family and other opportunities outside of baseball.

“It’s been an honor to wear the Cardinals uniform,” Anderson said in a statement. “St. Louis will always have a special place in my heart, and I’m grateful for the support from my teammates and fans throughout my career.”

Anderson finishes his career with a .271 batting average, 72 home runs, 290 RBIs, and over 100 stolen bases. His athleticism and leadership were instrumental during the team’s 2022 playoff run.

“Kyle has been a valuable part of our organization on and off the field,” said Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol. “His contributions will be missed, and we wish him nothing but success in this next chapter of his life.”

Mark Delgado: A Fresh Start Elsewhere

Relief pitcher Mark Delgado has decided to enter free agency after four seasons with the Cardinals. A reliable arm in the bullpen, Delgado posted a 3.42 ERA in 2024, often serving as a high-leverage reliever in critical situations.

“Being a Cardinal has been an incredible experience, but I feel it’s time for a change,” Delgado said. “I’m looking forward to the next opportunity and continuing to grow as a player.”

Delgado’s departure leaves a void in the Cardinals’ bullpen, which will need reinforcements as the team rebuilds for the 2025 season.

Moving Forward

These departures mark the beginning of what is expected to be a busy offseason for the Cardinals. With holes in both the outfield and bullpen, the team will look to its younger talent and free-agent market to fill these gaps.

“This is a time of transition for us, and we’re focused on building a roster that will compete at the highest level next season,” said John Mozeliak, the Cardinals’ President of Baseball Operations.

As Anderson and Delgado move on, their contributions to the team will be remembered as the Cardinals aim to return to contention in the coming year.
