The baseball world is abuzz as Juan Soto, a 26-year-old star entering free agency at the peak of his career, becomes the focal point of intense speculation. Soto has already engaged in introductory meetings with teams including the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, and New York Yankees, with the Philadelphia Phillies set to meet him soon.
According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, who surveyed 18 MLB executives and insiders, Soto’s free agency could result in a historic contract. Of those polled, 11 believed he would secure a deal exceeding $600 million, while seven did not. The survey also indicated that 12 executives predicted Soto would join the Yankees, four believed he would sign with the Mets, and two favored the Blue Jays.
The general consensus is that the Yankees, known for retaining their top talent, will not be outbid. “The Steinbrenner family doesn’t lose bidding wars for their stars,” Rogers stated. Insiders agree that the Yankees are unlikely to let Soto slip away, even if it means matching the significant terms agent Scott Boras may present.
Predictions for Soto’s contract suggest a deal between $630 million and $675 million, though expectations of reaching $700 million seem unlikely. However, the notion of a $700 million deal, if realized, would be historic and draw considerable attention.
