The Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Buffalo Bills 30-21 on Sunday, marking their first loss in 15 games, a streak that began after their last loss to the Raiders on Christmas Day. Despite his postseason success against Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes acknowledged that the Bills have had the upper hand in regular-season matchups. In an interview with Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports, Mahomes discussed what went wrong for the Chiefs and what they need to address for a potential playoff rematch.
“It’s always a couple of plays… a play here and there can be the difference,” Mahomes said, according to Goldman. “Today, Josh made those plays, and we didn’t. It’s all about a few key moments that change the game’s outcome.”
The Chiefs’ offense struggled in the second half, managing just one touchdown and failing to take the lead. Mahomes’ interception at the start of the game, his tenth of the season, was a worrying trend. Key players like Travis Kelce were limited to only two catches, Xavier Worthy slipped on a sideline play, and DeAndre Hopkins was largely ineffective.
Josh Allen’s impressive plays, including a crucial touchdown run, fueled the Bills’ victory. Even with injuries to Khalil Shakir, Amari Cooper, and Keon Coleman’s absence, Buffalo’s offense maintained its momentum.
Mahomes emphasized the need for improvement ahead of a potential playoff clash with Buffalo. Though the Chiefs have a few crucial games before January—against the Chargers in Week 14, the Texans in Week 16, and the Steelers in Week 17—these matchups will serve as important tests for Kansas City. Still, it seems likely that their path will lead to another showdown with the Bills, possibly on the road in Orchard Park, as they vie for the top seed in the AFC.
