JUST IN: Auburn Loses Another Commitment to SEC Rival

Auburn Loses Commitment to SEC Rival

The Auburn Tigers have seen a defensive back commitment slip to a rising SEC opponent. As anticipated earlier, Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class has been trimmed, with Dante Core choosing to flip his commitment from Auburn to Ole Miss. This decision brought Auburn’s total commitments down to 26.

Ranked as the #59 cornerback by Rivals, Core initially committed to Auburn on May 18. However, he attended the Rebels’ recent victory over Georgia in Oxford, a visit that likely played a key role in swaying his choice in favor of Lane Kiffin’s program.

Core shared his thoughts with Inside The Rebels about his visit.

“I love the culture that Ole Miss has,” he told David Johnson of Inside the Rebels. “I really like the structure of their program, the scheme, and the way everyone at Ole Miss seems genuinely invested in being there. I want to be a part of that.”

Core went on to express his excitement about joining Ole Miss. “I feel like I can finally relax; I don’t have to worry about the recruiting process anymore. I’m excited.”

Core, who hails from Choctawhatchee High in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, was one of two Floridian players committed to Auburn. With his departure, Elijah Melendez, a linebacker from Osceola High in Kissimmee, remains Auburn’s only commitment from Florida. In terms of rankings, Auburn’s position stayed steady—holding onto Rivals’ fifth-ranked recruiting class, even after Core’s flip to Ole Miss.
