The Carolina Panthers have parted ways with linebacker Jacoby Windmon, who was previously with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Carolina picked up Windmon from the Steelers’ practice squad about a month ago, and after his release, he rejoined the Panthers’ practice squad.
An undrafted rookie from Michigan State, Windmon initially joined Pittsburgh’s practice squad following a strong preseason, though he didn’t make their 53-man roster. He was valued as a versatile player capable of both edge rushing and playing linebacker.
During his time with the Panthers, Windmon appeared in three games, primarily contributing on special teams and recording two tackles. Now back on a practice squad, he aims to develop his skills further. A key question for Windmon’s future remains his ideal position; while the Steelers mainly used him as an off-ball linebacker, he also demonstrated potential as an outside linebacker when filling in due to injuries. Finding the right role could be crucial in helping him secure a more permanent spot on an active roster.
