Virginia Tech could see some key players return for their matchup against Clemson this weekend, providing a potential boost amidst a recent run of injuries. Over the past few weeks, the Hokies have faced multiple absences, including starting quarterback Kyron Drones, running back Bhayshul Tuten, and cornerback Mansoor Delane, who was injured in their game against Syracuse.
At his Tuesday press conference, head coach Brent Pry expressed uncertainty about the availability of Drones, Tuten, and Delane, listing them as questionable. However, Pry’s tone shifted Wednesday, with the Hokies’ third-year coach hinting that all three may indeed be ready to play. Tech Sideline’s David Cunningham reported that the players were moving well in practice, and Pry sounded optimistic, saying, “I think all three of them have a good chance [to play Saturday vs. Clemson] after yesterday and today.”
The potential return of Drones and Tuten would be particularly impactful on offense. While backups like Collin Schlee, Malachi Thomas, and Jeremiah Coney performed admirably against Syracuse, the offense operates differently with Drones and Tuten on the field. Their presence could be essential as Virginia Tech seeks to secure one more win for bowl eligibility. Facing Clemson with a healthier roster gives the Hokies a valuable opportunity to improve their postseason chances.
