The Carolina Panthers’ next contract extension priority is clear.
Dan Morgan has transformed the team’s approach to player contracts, bringing a sense of professionalism and strategic focus that sets him apart from his predecessor, Scott Fitterer. Since stepping into the Panthers’ front office leadership role, Morgan has shown a commitment to rewarding players who prove their value.
The first major extension went to Pro Bowl defensive lineman Derrick Brown this offseason, followed by an in-season extension for running back Chuba Hubbard—a rarity for the Panthers in recent years. Hubbard’s four-year deal confirms his role as a core team member, a move that has earned fans’ approval and shifted their attention to the next candidate for an extension.
The top priority? Jaycee Horn.
The Panthers need to extend Jaycee Horn at the earliest opportunity.
This season, Horn has excelled as a shutdown corner, showcasing his ability to lock down his side of the field with ease. Most significantly, he has stayed healthy, a crucial improvement after injuries limited him to just 22 games in his first three seasons. Adjustments to his offseason training seem to be paying off, as the South Carolina product has played every game this season at a high level.
Before the 2024 trade deadline, the Panthers received multiple inquiries about Horn, with other teams eyeing Carolina’s talented roster amid a tough season. Though Diontae Johnson and Jonathan Mingo were traded, Morgan didn’t consider moving Horn.
The Panthers have already exercised Horn’s fifth-year option, ensuring he remains under contract through 2026. Given Morgan’s track record with Brown, it’s likely he’ll follow a similar approach, negotiating an extension ahead of Horn’s final contract year to avoid any uncertainty.
Extending Horn won’t be inexpensive, but Morgan aims to change the team’s culture by retaining top talent and building around them. Horn has expressed his desire to stay and help restore the Panthers’ success, making him a prime candidate for a new deal after the season ends.
In previous years, fans might have worried about losing a player of Horn’s caliber, but Morgan’s approach has inspired new confidence in keeping valuable contributors in Carolina.
