The Buffalo Bills did not make any trades before the deadline on Tuesday but did bolster their roster through free agency. On Wednesday morning, the team announced the signings of defensive tackles Jordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson to their active roster. Both players had been released by their previous teams the day before, with Phillips coming from the Dallas Cowboys and Jefferson from the Cleveland Browns.
When asked about their potential roles, head coach Sean McDermott noted that their readiness would need to be assessed. “Jordan Phillips was released from his previous team, as was Quinton,” McDermott said. “So who knows where that will go? Neither has played much with their former teams, so we need to see if they’re in shape and ready to contribute. We’ll take it step by step and see what happens.”
Phillips and Jefferson are no strangers to Buffalo; Phillips previously played for the team from 2018 to 2019 and again from 2022 to 2023, while Jefferson was with the Bills in 2020. Their signings come as the Bills face depth issues on the defensive line, with Dawuane Smoot and DeWayne Carter currently on injured reserve. The team may rely on Phillips’ and Jefferson’s experience in the coming weeks.
