As the NFL trade deadline approaches, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane may have one last trade up his sleeve. With the deadline set to pass at 4 PM EST today, teams will no longer be able to make any trades and will move forward with their current rosters for the second half of the season. Beane, known for his proactive approach to team building, could make a final move to strengthen the Bills’ roster.
Sitting at 7-2 and leading the AFC East, the Bills are in a prime position, but Beane’s track record suggests he won’t rest on his laurels. Earlier this season, he made a trade with the Cleveland Browns for wide receiver Amari Cooper, who had a strong debut with Buffalo in Week 7.
Beane’s last-minute trade last season for cornerback Rasul Douglas from the Green Bay Packers was also a success, with Douglas quickly becoming a key player in the secondary. His addition solidified the Bills’ defense, especially in the absence of Tre’Davious White.
As the trade deadline nears, the NFL is expected to see several deals, and the Bills could make one more move to further bolster their roster. According to Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine, the team could benefit from adding defensive help. One of the Bills’ current weaknesses is stopping the run. They’ve allowed over 120 rushing yards in five of their nine games, including a staggering 271 yards to the Baltimore Ravens. While the defensive line excels at rushing the passer, there’s a clear need to improve run defense.
A player like defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day could be a valuable addition to the defensive front, especially after the team lost DeWayne Carter and Duwuane Smoot to injuries. Adding depth and run-stopping ability to the line could be just what the Bills need to maintain their position as AFC East leaders.
