Jets Coach Reveals His Message to Malachi Corley After Goal-Line Mistake
New York Jets rookie receiver Malachi Corley made headlines for the wrong reasons during his team’s 21–13 victory over the Houston Texans at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night. The third-round pick in 2024 seemed to score his first career touchdown with a 19-yard rush in the second quarter, but a replay review showed he dropped the ball before crossing the goal line. As a result, the Texans gained possession at the 20-yard line due to a touchback, rather than the Jets taking a 7–0 lead.
After the game, Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich shared what he told Corley about the critical mistake. “First of all, you can’t do that,” Ulbrich said. “And second of all, you owe us one.”
Corley didn’t get another chance to make amends during the game, playing only six of the Jets’ 58 offensive snaps and failing to receive any targets or carries. He has managed just 22 total yards on two touches so far in his career within a crowded Jets receiving corps. However, there may still be future opportunities for Corley to redeem himself, and if so, he will surely remember to secure the ball as he crosses the goal line.
