Dillon Lawson, who previously served as the hitting coach for the Yankees, has been promoted to assistant hitting coach for the Red Sox after just one year with the organization. Boston made the announcement on Sunday morning. The 39-year-old spent the 2024 season as the minor league hitting coordinator for the Red Sox. Before joining Boston, Lawson spent five years with the Yankees, where he was the minor league hitting coordinator from 2019 to 2021 and then the hitting coach for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, during which the Yankees led MLB in home runs in Lawson’s first year as hitting coach.
A native of Louisville, Lawson also has experience with the Houston Astros and four college programs, including the University of Missouri.
He will take over for former assistant hitting coach Luis Ortiz, who was reportedly one of six coaches let go by the Red Sox following their disappointing 2024 season.
