Former Jets players criticize the team following a surprising loss to the Patriots. The New York Jets have become one of the most disappointing teams of the 2024 NFL season, now sitting at 2-6 after a 25-22 defeat to the struggling New England Patriots (also 2-6).
After the game, former Jets linebacker and current NFL analyst Bart Scott expressed his feelings on SNY’s “Jets Postgame Live,” stating he was “disgusted,” “embarrassed,” and “ashamed” by the team’s performance at Gillette Stadium. This latest loss marks the Jets’ fifth consecutive defeat, their third straight since the firing of head coach Robert Saleh, highlighting that the team requires more than just competent quarterback play to salvage their season.
The Jets burned all three of their first-half timeouts within their first nine offensive plays on Sunday. Kicker Greg Zuerlein contributed to a four-point swing by missing an extra point and a 44-yard field goal attempt. The defense, which is supposed to be elite, faltered by allowing two fourth-quarter scoring drives against backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who stepped in for the injured rookie Drake Maye. Former Jets offensive lineman Willie Colon likened this year’s team to the 2023 Jets, who lost future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers to a torn Achilles just four plays into the season. That team initially rallied to a 4-3 record with backup Zach Wilson before ultimately losing five straight games and falling out of playoff contention. It remains uncertain whether Rodgers and the team will approach their upcoming game against the 6-2 Houston Texans with the mindset that the season is “officially over.” As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had New York listed as a one-point underdog for that matchup.
