Breaking News: Yankees Star Reveals Aaron Bone A lock To Return In 2025, But May Not Get New Contract.

A New York Yankees insider has indicated that Aaron Boone is almost certain to return in 2025, although the team may not commit to a new multi-year contract for him. Boone faced considerable pressure in 2024, especially after a disappointing season where the team finished just above .500 and missed the playoffs. This year, however, he has performed much better.

As the Yankees prepare for their World Series matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, they are just four wins away from claiming their 28th MLB title. Yet, once the season ends, they will need to focus on retaining All-Star Juan Soto, who is expected to be at the center of a competitive free-agent bidding war. While the Yankees are favorites to keep him, they will face stiff competition, particularly from city rivals the New York Mets, backed by their wealthy owner.

MLB insider Joel Sherman recently discussed the Mets’ strategy to secure Soto and highlighted how the Yankees’ financial plans could hinder their chances of re-signing him. With Soto potentially commanding a $600 million contract, Sherman noted that owner Hal Steinbrenner is serious about reducing payroll, which could prevent the Yankees from engaging in a bidding war with the Mets. Steinbrenner’s desire to cut costs has drawn attention, especially given the Yankees’ historical status as one of baseball’s biggest spenders. Exceeding the luxury tax threshold can lead to hefty penalties, making it financially wise to keep payroll below $300 million. However, losing Soto to the Mets could prove to be a costly mistake for the Yankees in the long run.
